Richard

“Adler”

Group Leader

For me, joining Scouting was an easy decision. I wanted to give something back and be part of helping to shape our next generations. I enjoy seeing our youth members grow in their personal skills, confidence, and experience through the programs and activities scouting offers.

Outside of scouting, I keep busy operating a small consultancy that provides operational management advice and services to the construction materials and broader industries. I enjoy being outdoors amongst nature, going hiking, camping, and spending time learning about bush tucker!

Brett

“Baloo”

Venturer Leader

I chose to become a Leader so I could be part of my childrens’ journey through Scouts, and to be able to support other likeminded youth on their own individual journeys.

I still have fond memories of my time as a young Scout; the knowledge the Leaders imparted upon me, the skills I picked up by participating, the adventures I had with my fellow Scouts, and all the friends I made along the way. Since that time, I have continued to pursue those interests acquired as a young scout and I made new friends all over Australia and the world. By encouraging my children to be part of the Scouting movement, I hope they too will have similar experiences, carve out their own adventures, create their own memories, and develop new friendships.

The diverse nature of Scouts means everyone’s Scouting journey is unique. For me, Scouts is about exploring the new and becoming your best, with the outdoors providing an ideal environment free from the distractions and complications of modern life. Whether you are a Youth or Adult member of the Scouting movement, there are always opportunities to try something new, push your boundaries, expand your skills, meet new people, and give back to others.

Scout Leaders

Aaron

“Darzee”

Scout Leader

My eldest son joined as a Joey in Kenmore before transferring as a Cub to Moggill. Fairly soon after starting in Cubs, he experienced a life event where we felt additional support was needed, which led to me joining as a Cub Leader in 2018. The first six months was a little daunting, but after completing Basic Training, I have found this to be a very rewarding experience.

I have developed a passion for the outdoors, which I enjoy sharing with my Section. Scouting has allowed me to develop qualifications in many Adventurous Activities, with Bushwalking, Paddling, 4WD and Pioneering being my primary areas of interest. I also (at time of writing) hold secondary appointments as a Child Safe Scouting Officer and a Personal Leader Advisor.

At this time, my whole family has joined the movement, with everyone having a fantastic time experiencing challenge and adventure. Outside of Scouting, I enjoy other outdoor pursuits, trying to develop an edible garden and home automation.

Tamara

“Lily”

Scout Leader

I have been a Scout Leader at Moggill Scout Group since 2021. I’m relatively new to Scouting but my commitment to the Baden-Powell vision goes back a long way. I have been involved with Girl Guides for most of my life. I have fond memories of my time as a Brownie, a Girl Guide, and a Pathfinder in Canada. The highlight of my time as a youth member was spending 28 days in England and Wales with my Pathfinder unit. I have a huge respect and appreciation for the three leaders who made that happen! My passion for travel was ignited then as was my love of connecting with member organizations in other countries. I returned as a Girl Guide leader in my 20’s and transferred when I moved to Australia in 2002. I enjoy the connection to the community and making new friends.

I joined Scouts to add new challenges to my life, learn new skills and to be part of my son’s journey as I had enjoyed the same privilege with his older sisters in Girl Guides. The leadership skills I had learned in Girl Guides easily transferred to Scouts. I love being outdoors, canoeing, camping, campfire singing, crafting, and Guiding and Scouting Traditions. I love teaching life skills and watching youth grow, learn, gain confidence, and develop leadership skills. It is my pleasure to be part of their journey.

My personal goals in Scouting include becoming an Archery Guide and completing my Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation.

“Bilby”

Cub Scout Leader

Joining Scouts as an Adult was an easy decision… I wanted to share in the fun and adventure, as well as expand my outdoor skills.

I am a mum of three children. My eldest son joined the Scouting movement 5 years ago as a Joey then transitioned to Cubs twelve months later. At this time, my husband Aaron (Darzee) joined as a Cub Leader too. Over the next couple of years, our middle son joined Cubs, our daughter began Joeys, whilst my eldest and husband both moved up to Scouts. With my entire family involved and loving it so much, I wanted to be a part of the Scouting movement too.

As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors camping, bushwalking and of course our absolute favourite; Geocaching. I love to keep active and despite my brown thumb, I enjoy working in my garden.

Tamsin

“Wattle”

Cub Scout Leader

A little bit about me: I’m pretty much born and bred in the western suburbs of Brisbane, and continue to do so with my own family. Scouting is something my whole family has been involved in, with my Aunt, Uncle and Cousins running the Aylesbury 3rd Group for nearly 50 years.

I followed in the footsteps of my own children and joined as a Cub Scout Leader in 2023. My daughter joined Moggill Scouts in 2020, and she grew in confidence, which for her at the time was invaluable. Of course, because of all the cool things she was doing, my son was desperate to join too, so he joined the movement in 2023.

I was looking for something to give me a personal challenge and grow, and my love of the outdoors and working in childcare made me decide to join my two passions together and volunteer. The leaders at Moggill are a collective wealth of knowledge, and together with them I’m enjoying getting to know my adventurous side. I’m grateful for the team at Moggill.

Alison

“Goanna”

Cub Scout Leader

I joined Moggill Cub Scouts in 2022 and earned my Wood Beads in 2024, which finishes my Scout leadership training. I am also a Girl Guide Leader at Moggill, with 15 years of experience as a Leader. I love the Scout program and the skills I have gained through excellent training.

My particular interests are in Archery, and I’m in the process of qualifying to be an Archery Guide (an Adventurous Activities leader). I’m also passionate about Advocacy and translating this into the ability for young people to change their world in a passionate, positive way.

I’m a big picture person, so I like coming up with projects that draw not only the Cub Scouts into the project, but also parents, families, and the community at large.

I believe in Baden Powell’s legacy that non-formal education is a better way for children to learn practical skills that will help them in their everyday lives.

Joey Scout Leaders

Matt

“Rakali”

Joey Scout Leader

My scouting journey began in 1993 when my wonderful Mum signed me up to help form the very first Joey Scout mob in Warwick, QLD. From there, I progressed through Cubs and Scouts, and enjoyed the incredible experience of attending the 19th Australian Jamboree in 2001. I have many fond memories of my time in scouting as a youth, particularly of the leaders who not only taught me countless practical skills, but encouraged me to become a more resilient, resourceful, and capable person. I am immensely proud to have been a scout in my youth, and even more so to be a part of the Leader team at Moggill Scout Group. Helping to guide the next generation of scouts, including my own children, is an incredibly rewarding experience.

Outside of scouting, I most enjoy creating memories with my family. I also engage in a wide range of disciplines focused on adventure and exploration, hands-on creativity, and making music.
